Case Study: Noise Cancelling Intercoms for Brighton Breast Care Centre

Brighton Breast Care Centre has two Accuray/TomoTherapy radiotherapy machines for scanning patients. The machines are very noisy when operating, which causes communication issues between the patients and the nurses. This hinders the care nurses can provide for patients if they are distressed or in pain as the nurses cannot hear the patient clearly. 

How bhi helped with noise cancelling 

At bhi, we supply medical-grade noise cancelling intercom systems that greatly reduce the noise of the radiotherapy machines, ensuring clearer communications between nurses and patients.  

We have a partnership with Accuray, a leading manufacturer of radiotherapy machines. Their machines are supplied with the bhi NEIS-RM25 noise cancelling intercom system. Brighton Breast Care Centre has two Accuray machines which both include our noise cancelling intercom.  

The bhi noise cancelling intercom is quick and easy to implement, no matter which type of radiotherapy machine you have. Connection is made using a single CAT 5 cable run, straight through from the speaker unit in the treatment room to the desk unit in the nurses station. All intercoms use medical-grade materials to ensure they are not impacted by the environment.  

Final results

If they were only using a normal intercom, nurse-to-patient communication would be compromised due to the noisiness of the machine, this includes when the machine is off. This means if the patient was distressed, nurses and doctors would not be able to hear their issues clearly and provide suitable care. bhi's noise cancelling intercom allows much clearer comms with these noisy machines so that the patient can be heard clearly at all times. Having a scan can be both stressful and painful, and our noise cancelling intercom ensures that communication during treatment does not add to these stresses.
