Using More Than One Radio With Your bhi DSP Noise Cancelling Unit

Many radio enthusiasts operate more than one receiver or transceiver and would like to take advantage of using their bhi DSP noise cancelling unit across multiple radios. Fortunately, several bhi products enable an effective way to connect two or more radios to a single bhi DSP product.

This guide outlines the available options and helps you choose the best solution for your setup.

1. bhi Two Way Mini Switch

The bhi Mini Switch allows you to connect up to two radios to a single bhi DSP noise cancelling product. It has:

• Two “audio in” 3.5mm mono jack inputs, “1” and “2”, with a 3.5mm mono jack output
• An integrated output lead to cater for both the bhi DSP noise cancelling in-line units and amplified DSP noise cancelling speakers
• Two ALD-001 3.5mm audio connection cables are supplied
• Built-in load termination on unused inputs to protect your radio equipment's audio outputs

The Mini Switch handles up to 3 watts of power, making it compatible with a wide range of radio equipment. The selection of which radio to use is simply done using the toggle switch on the Mini Switch. When using one of our In-Line units with the Mini Switch, you would connect the output lead on the Mini Switch to the input of the bhi In-Line unit and then plug your speaker or headphones into the output of the bhi In-Line unit.

If using stereo inputs with the Mini Switch, you will need to use a stereo to mono adapter plug (check that this is compatible with your radio output socket; otherwise, you could inadvertently damage your radio).

2. bhi 1042 Six Way Switch Box

The bhi 1042 Six Way Switch Box is a versatile mono audio routing solution that allows you to connect up to six different radios to your bhi DSP noise cancelling device. There are:

• Three 8-ohm loaded mono inputs optimised for speaker-level audio signals from transceivers and receivers
• Three unloaded inputs designed specifically for low-level audio signals from shortwave radios or receivers/scanners
• 2 x 3.5mm mono plug leads, 1.2M long, included for immediate setup and connection (you would need more ALD-001 3.5mm plug leads for more radios)

Connection to the 1042 Switch Box is via the seven connections on the rear of the unit. Radio selection is done by turning the rotary switch to select the radio you want to use with your bhi DSP noise cancelling product. This is then routed to the output socket, which has the bhi DSP noise cancelling product connected. When using one of our In-Line units with the 1042 Switch Box, you would connect a 3.5mm mono plug lead from the output socket of the Switch Box to the input of the bhi In-Line unit and then plug your speaker or headphones into the output bhi In-Line unit.

If using stereo inputs, you would need to use a stereo to mono adapter plug (check the compatibility with your radio output socket; otherwise, you could inadvertently damage your radio).

3. ALD-Y01 “Y” audio splitter cable

This splitter cable enables you to connect two radios to your Dual In-Line and Compact In-Line DSP noise cancelling units. It does this by splitting the stereo plug into single mono signals, one on the tip of the stereo plug and one on the ring. There are two mono sockets at the other end, which allow you to plug two separate radios in.

With the Dual In-Line this means that by moving the “Separate/Combined” switch to separate, you can route two separate radio signals through the unit. You will then be able to either listen to the separate signals through the stereo headphones or via the “Line Out” socket using a pair of amplified stereo speakers or audio amplifier unit.

The Compact In-Line unit works much the same, except that to change the “Separate/Combined” signal to separate the individual radio signals, you press and hold both buttons and listen for one beep (combined) or two beeps (separate signals).

Using the ALD-Y01 splitter cable with the DESKTOP MKII allows you to connect two separate mono radio signals into the "Line Level Input" socket on the rear of the DESKTOP MKII, enabling you to monitor two separate radio signals.

4. ParaPro EQ20-DSP range of noise cancelling products

This ParaPro EQ20 DSP range of products has two separate mono inputs on the rear of the unit, enabling you to connect two radios to CH1 and CH2, respectively. Output is either through stereo headphones from the front or by connecting two separate passive speakers to the left and right speaker outputs. You could also use a pair of powered speakers through one of our LLC1 line level converter units connected to the speaker outputs of the EQ20-DSP unit.
