ParaPro EQ20-DSP noise cancelling unit with 20W audio and parametric equalisation

Greatly improved audio for those with hearing loss

The ParaPro EQ20-DSP offers professional-grade sound processing in a compact, user-friendly package. Its parametric equalisation system provides unprecedented control over audio frequencies, allowing users to precisely target and adjust specific frequency ranges that match their hearing needs. This level of customisation makes it particularly valuable for individuals with hearing loss, who can now fine-tune their audio experience to their exact preferences.

The integration of our DSP noise cancellation technology offers high-quality audio amplification. The system processes audio across the entire bandwidth, effectively separating speech from background noise while maintaining audio fidelity. Operating on 12V DC power, the unit offers excellent efficiency through its Class-D amplifier design, eliminating the need for bulky heat sinks while delivering consistent, clear audio output.

Who is the EQ20-DSP for?

  • Amateur radio
  • Shortwave listening
  • Commercial radio base stations
  • General audio

Mono or stereo inputs

You can connect one or two mono inputs to the CH1 and CH2 input sockets or a single stereo signal from an amateur radio transceiver, SDR radio, shortwave receiver, MP3 player etc, via the 3.5mm stereo input sockets.

Choice of outputs and connections

Connect one or two passive speakers to the left and right “Speaker Outputs” using the 4mm banana plugs or phono to 3.5mm mono adapters supplied. Use the “Source Select” button on the front panel to select the desired audio.

Easy-to-use controls

The EQ20-DSP is housed in a quality compact ABS case. There are controls for Power/Volume along with two parametric equaliser channels labelled Bass and Treble, with the Bass centre frequency being adjustable from 100Hz to 1kHz and Treble covering 1kHz to 10kHz. Used together, these controls provide two bands of ±10dB adjustment from 100Hz through to 10kHz. The bhi noise filter control allows you to adjust the filter level from off (DSP bypassed) to 40dB of noise cancellation.

Benefits of parametric equalisation

Unlike standard tone control, graphic equalisation and preset EQ settings, a parametric equaliser allows you to select the precise frequency you want to adjust. This enables you to boost or cut the selected frequency, giving you much greater flexibility and accuracy in setting the audio to suit your hearing. This is especially beneficial to people with hearing loss.

Note: You can connect directly to Bluetooth-enabled devices from the EQ20-DSP output.  If you want to connect to a Bluetooth-enabled device on the output, like Bluetooth headphones, speakers or hearing aids then you could use a suitable Bluetooth transmitter.

Testimonials

"I can hear better – Weak stations come in much clearer. I have diminished hearing and the unit makes listening much easier. I am very impressed. I am so impressed with the "Kit" Everything was included! I didn't have to order extra parts. Brilliant. - Mark Habberfield KB9OPW

"Fantastic piece of equipment. The removal of unwanted noise is incredible. Really impressed with your products and service (2nd to none). I wear hearing aids and have problems in both ears. This unit is a necessity." - Rex Davis 2W0HZC

“Easy-to-use device that improves the audio clarity of amateur signals” - EQ20B-DSP QST Dec 2019 review

"I have a Dual In-line module which is very good for eliminating noise.  The EQ20B-DSP is first class and really does improve the audio and noise cancelling signals can be fine tuned.  I am now hearing all calls much clearer.  Heavy accents are no longer a problem" - EQ20B-DSP review by Peter Joyner M0WPJ

"Using the new EQ20-DSP noise cancelling and parametric equaliser for a few days I have found this to be an excellent purchase. I am now able to receive stations down in my local noise level which was not possible before due to high solar panel and other local electronic noise. Using the fixed line level output from my ICOM IC7600 and IC9100 transceivers thus bypassing the internal audio stages gives the best results.( 4.7K 300mV rms )this source is just below the clipping level, the audio having little or no distortion with a frequency range to suit me. Many thanks to Kellie and Graham for the very fast and efficient service." - David G2FT ex G3MWV.

FAQs

What’s the difference between the EQ20, EQ20‑DSP and EQ20B‑DSP?

The EQ20 is the base model with parametric equalisation and 20W audio output only, and no DSP noise cancellation. The EQ20-DSP version has parametric equalisation, 20W audio and DSP noise cancellation. The EQ20B-DSP has parametric equalisation, 20W audio, DSP noise cancellation and Bluetooth on the input, enabling it to be used with a Bluetooth-enabled radio or audio device.

Can I connect this unit to any radio?

Yes – these units can be used with any radio, receiver or transceiver. You simply connect the audio from your radio to the 3.5mm audio inputs (CH1, CH2 or the stereo) on the rear of the bhi ParaPro unit, then route the audio from the speaker outputs to a passive extension speaker/speakers or headphones. Note: If separate speakers are used, you cannot connect the ground of the speakers together, as this could damage the amplifier output.

What power output does it deliver?

It outputs up to 10W per channel, suitable for driving and external passive speaker/speakers.

What is parametric equalisation?

Rather than simple “bass” and “treble” tone controls, this device allows you to select specific frequencies that you can then boost or cut by ±10 dB. This helps to tailor the audio to your personal hearing profile, enabling you to hear noisy signals much more clearly. Especially useful for those with hearing loss.

Will this help if I have hearing loss?

Yes — the combination of parametric equalisation and bhi DSP noise cancellation is specifically designed to help users with hearing difficulties by boosting important frequencies and reducing background noise.

Can I connect more than one radio to the unit?

Yes – there are two separate mono inputs (CH & CH2) that can be used for two separate mono radio inputs.

Can I connect powered speakers to the speaker outputs of the unit?

Yes, but only when connected through the bhi LLC1 line level converter unit; otherwise, you will damage the class D audio amplifier.

The overload LED flashes when I move the volume control a short turn clockwise, why?

This issue only happens with a few radios. The solution is to use the bhi ATT2 attenuator pad. This gives you more volume control and more output from the unit.

What is supplied with the unit?

All units come with a user manual and a fully comprehensive accessory kit to allow for most types of connections. The kit comprises of the following: 2 x ALD-001 3.5mm mono plug lead 1.2m long, 1 x ALD-007 3.5mm stereo plug lead 1.2m long, 1 x 1030-FPL fused DC power lead, 2 x 4mm red banana plugs, 2 x 4mm black banana plugs, 2 x ADP-P004 phono plug to 3.5mm socket adapter plugs.
