Marine radio communications between vessel and shore contend with lots of issues, like weak signals with background noise such as engine noise, wind noise, wave impact and electrical interference. Our DSP noise cancelling technology can differentiate the speech from the noise and remove this background noise, leaving just clear speech.
The DSP technology is fully adaptive, works in real time, and no adjustments are necessary. If no noise is present, the speech remains unchanged (try it with a clear VHF signal). There is almost no distortion of speech signals, even for very low signal-to-noise ratios. Our technology is self-adapting to a changing noise environment, and no training of the noise filter is required. Customers can adjust the DSP filter level to suit their own needs and application. When doing this, it does not change the characteristics of the noise; that is, any residual noise still sounds natural.

Can I install the noise cancelling products myself?
Yes, the bhi NEDSP1962-KBD pre-wired amplified DSP noise cancelling PCB module could be retrofitted into an extension speaker that is used with your radio, or you could install our pre-wired NEDSP1901-KBD low level audio module inside your radio (space permitting). Are they compatible with all radios?

What's the difference between a noise cancelling speaker and an in-line module?
Standalone amplified DSP noise cancelling speakers (like the NES10-2 MK4 or DESKTOP MKII) replace your existing speaker. Our In-line modules connect between your radio and your existing speaker or headset and are useful if you want to keep your current speaker setup.
How much background noise can bhi products reduce?
Our DSP technology reduces background noise by up to 40dB and tone/interference by up to 65dB, while preserving speech clarity — tested against typical marine noise sources like engine noise, wind, and static.
